Why Steel Are Binds By Binding Wire? Purpose & Types?
What is binding wire?
Binding wire is used for the purpose of tying applications in the construction field. It is used widely in the construction sector for tying the rebars at the joints so as to keep the structure intact.
Binding wire is also called annealed wire and is made of mild steel. Annealing endows it with the properties like flexibility and softness, required for its main use. Binding wire is available in different diameters ranging – 0.61 mm to 1.22 mm. the application of binding wire requires it to be flexible enough so as to tie easily and strong enough so as to hold the joint in place. There are various methods used for tying the joints.
Best type of binding wires are generally –
- Black Annealed Baling Wire
- Stainless Steel Binding Wire (SUS304 Wire Soft and Bright)
Why steels are binds by binding wire?
One of the major use of binding wires is to keep the reinforcement provided in the proper place because without the binding wire reinforcement will be free to move which could lead to an increase in spacing between reinforcement in a particular section and a decrease in a particular which can lead to the decrease in strength and ductility of the structure and increase the chances of failure.
Purpose of binding wire
- Maintain the accurate design location, orientation (direction) of steel bars. To prevent dislocation of the steel bars when pouring concrete on them; when consolidating the concrete with vibrator and when workers walk over them.
- Annealing allows the wires to stay soft for ease of application.
- The tensile strength of the wires helps in binding the knots without any breakage
- A Binding wire manufacturer in India makes these wires flexible enough to fit the multiple usage needs repeatedly
- To secure secondary frame designs like chairs, spacer bars in construction
- Holding lapped bars in ideal position
How to calculate binding wire quantity for steel works?
The binding wire calculation does not have any formula to find out the weight of the binding wire, so here we just use The Thumb rules to find out the weight of the binding wire.
- Binding Wire are required for 100 kg of steel = 0.9 kg to 1.3 kg
- Binding Wire are required for 1 Ton (1000 kg) of steel = 9kg to 13 kg
- For one Ton steel work (1000 kg) if the diameter of steel is 28 mm to 32 mm so there we required just 7 kg of binding wire to bend the steel with each other.
1. Diameter of the reinforcement bar.
2. Spacing of the rebar from each other.
3. Type of structural member.
4. Gauge and type of binding wire used.
5. Selection of tying ways or methods of binding wire.
6. Tying manually by hook or tying mechanically by using rebar tying tools.
7. Type of the structure (like building, dam, bridge, etc).
